This abrupt interruption in the gravimetric beam triggers a backlash that, traveling along the beams path, will kill Dr. Laus Sonrick, in 6180 AH, when his equipment explodes.
4-year old S"Chavaar"s space-pod lands safely, but roughly, in Hot Springs, Ugakhpa Protectorate, and J. W. Skipes pulls little S"Chavaar from the pod and takes him to his sister, Wynona and her husband, Ayan wa Chisulo.
This landing is seen and reported in the Porciúncula Herald, but it is thought to be a big meteor.
After getting the child to a safe place, J. W. Skipes returns to the crash-site with his truck, to take the space-pod to his barn, where he buries it in his unused tornado bunker.
The Chisulos adopt the child S'Chavaar, after the hospital they sent him to for medical check-up discovers he was incredibly strong, and names him Umwaume wa Chisulo.
Sypherion arrives moments after the bombing, aiding survivors in evacuation. He is deeply impacted due to his not being able to stop the bombing itself.
His photographs are never published due to their graphic nature, but become crucial in postwar anti-nuclear movements.
While photographing adobe structures, he hears a deafening boom from the southeast, followed by a low, drawn-out rumble, too deep for thunder.
Locals in the plaza begin pointing toward the horizon, where a brief, unnatural flash fades.
The hyperspatial particle skimmer that Sael'Za Kun and Mor'Za Vaar are in has kept them in good physical health, but has not been able to completely stop the aging process.
Throughout their journey, the occupants have aged so slowly that, in the last 45,000+ years, they have only aged 4 years.
The family's craft shuts off its hyperspatial drive and enters the atmosphere of Eden and the onboard computer triggers all its landing fail safes in the hopes of keeping its occupants alive.
It does not have time to calculate avoidance of the rocks and boulders in its path.
Midday
A radio bulletin mentions "something" crashing near a ranch outside Missouri Plaza. No details.
Umwaume wa Chisulo’s gut twists, the language is vague, but the tone is exactly what his adoptive father used when hiding bad news from him as a boy.
Checking to see no one is watching him, he speeds toward the reported location, his mind racing with the half-buried memory of his own arrival in 1916.
Afternoon
Umwaume wa Chisulo arrives near the debris field just before the military fully seals it off.
Sees a large, disc-like hull gouged into the earth, the exact same alloy he once touched as a child when his own pod opened.
Through the heat haze, catches sight of two humanoid figures lying still near the wreck, their silhouettes trigger an almost primal recognition.
He sprints toward the site but is stopped by MPs at gunpoint.
They order him to back away.
An alien vessel had crash landed in Missouri Plaza, Kóó'ah Protectorate, resulting in the death on impact of both aliens, one male, one female.
The vessel appears to have jettisoned a small orb from its side.
A search revealed no other alien vessels or orb in the vicinity.
Evening
From a distant ridge, uses his long lens to photograph the recovery.
With his telescopic vision he watches as soldiers load wreckage and the bodies into covered trucks.
In a fleeting moment, one tarp slips, revealing dark, elongated features eerily similar to his own bone structure.
He freezes, breath caught in his chest.
His X-Ray Vision, combined with his Telescopic Vision allow him to see their DNA.
His hands shake as he tries to convince the guards: "You don’t understand, I need to get a picture. " His words only tighten their stance against him.
He watches helplessly as the convoy departs toward the rail line for transport east.
The bodies and wreckage are packed up and shipped to the fake military base colloquially called, Watertown Strip, or, as it is officially known as, Homey Airport (KXTA)
Night
Alone in a cheap motel, develops the few frames he managed to keep.
One blurred shot shows enough: part of the skimmer’s hull with alien glyphs matching the faint designs on his own baby pod.
He realizes, with crushing certainty, that the people in that ship were his parents — and that they died upon impact.
Lunaeūmu, Duʾuzu 16th
Returns to work, but the rest of the year is a haze.
He carries the photos everywhere, hidden in a false bottom of his camera case.
A new obsession takes root: find where the military took them, and learn the full truth of what happened between 6061 and now.
Sypherion announces a temporary retirement from public heroics, returning to journalism and photography full-time — though secretly continuing covert rescues when needed. It does not last long.
A routine 20-second shut down of the system seemed to be another test of the electrical equipment.
During the test, while Umwaume wa Chisulo was touring the complex, a factory worker was startled to see Umwaume wa Chisulo and stumbled back into the control panel, triggering the failsafe, the detonation of the uranium stockpile the government was secretly using to build nuclear weapons.
Seven seconds later, a surge created a chemical explosion that nearly released 520 dangerous radionuclides into the atmosphere.
Unable to stop the explosion, Umwaume wa Chisulo changed into Sypherion and managed to get everyone to a safe distance before heading back into the power plant to try and shut it down, but he was too late and the explosion irradiated him down to the cellular level.
An unforeseen effect of this was that all the radiation from the explosion was absorbed by Sypherion’s body, keeping the area free of nuclear fallout.
But the damage to his body was too much and it began to break down.
As his body disintegrated, each atom was replaced by a particle of energy, slowly recreating his body in an energy form.
To keep others safe from his radioactive aura, Sypherion melted some nearby lead and created a shell around him to block as much of it as possible.
But this horrible and terrifyingly painful process of transmutation took days and when it was over, Sypherion had completely been recreated, more powerful, and in a way that changed his life.
Without a second thought, or a chance to say goodbye, Sypherion flew straight up into space in order to reduce the damage from his radioactive aura, and to keep those he loves safe.
