The Irregulars

The Irregulars are a loosely organized global support collective composed of meta-mutants, Gifted individuals, and people affected by anomalous events such as uncontrolled magic exposure, villain collateral damage, or unstable activation of the meta-mutant gland. Unlike formal enforcement or hero organizations, they operate without institutional hierarchy, jurisdictional authority, or fixed membership criteria. Their defining structure is voluntary participation, emotional safety, and mutual assistance.

Functionally, The Irregulars operate as both a peer-support network and an informal crisis-response unit. Their primary purpose is stabilization: helping members cope with physical transformation, psychological disruption, identity fragmentation, and social alienation caused by post-Reset phenomena. Meetings resemble therapeutic group sessions, often compared to support circles, where individuals share experiences, request guidance, or simply exist in a judgment-free environment.

A central figure within the group is The Instructor, a former social worker who became a wheelchair-bound telepath after the Great Reset. He subconsciously emits a calming psionic field that reduces cognitive stress and emotional volatility in nearby individuals, allowing for reflective thought and emotional grounding. His presence functions as an anchor point for the group’s otherwise unpredictable interpersonal dynamics.

The Irregulars are notable for their unconventional mobility and global reach. A member with teleportation abilities facilitates physical gatherings across continents, enabling participation regardless of geography or political boundaries. This has allowed the group to remain decentralized while still cohesive.

In rare circumstances, The Irregulars transition from support structure to active intervention unit. They may assist local authorities in containment of low-to-mid-tier anomalies, coordinate with national meta-mutant organizations such as The Oathbound, or—under exceptional conditions—support operations involving the international task force known as The T.I.T.A.N.S. However, they are not a combat organization by design and generally avoid escalation.

One member has recently manifested the ability to activate the meta-mutant gland in others, effectively granting Gifts. Lacking full control over this ability, she represents both a breakthrough and a destabilizing variable within the group’s philosophy of consent, identity integrity, and self-determination.

Within the broader post-Reset world, The Irregulars serve as a counterbalance to institutionalized power structures, emphasizing survivability, psychological continuity, and the right to exist without classification or exploitation.
