History

Written by: Joshua W. Murcray

In 2038, 15-year-old Cadet Khnum Ani-Khepesh, son of Princess Iman bint Abdullah and Hassan el-Sisi, and boy-genius with all-things engineering, was immediately chosen by his superiors for an emergency mission to Nippon-koku. He had been at the Academy, serving his time in the military as all members of royalty are required to do, when the emergency call came in and his ability to reprogram and break into any known computer system got him on a jet headed to one of the Nipponese launch silos in an attempt to either stop the launch, or redirect them to crash harmlessly in open water. Everything went fine until they were discovered, and many of Cadet Khnum's men died protecting him and buying him time to do his job, but the Nipponese forces were too efficient, and they managed to stop him before he could finish the job. Unbeknownst to Cadet Khnum and those that sent him, government paid hackers from around the world had begun their own attempts at hacking into missiles.

Each of these separate hackers were tasked to turn the missiles and target the major cities of enemy or non-friendly nations. Sadly, many of them achieved their goals. Despite being the best in the game, Cadet Khnum was outmatched in sheer number of outside hackers.

His remaining team managed to fight their way clear to their designated evac zone where they managed to pull-off a skyhook pickup and escape Nippon-koku.

Onboard the plane, Khnum and his fellow soldiers all watched as the missiles struck and an atomic particle wave swept across the face of the planet. Within minutes, The Quake rattled the continents and his team watched in horror as cities fell and mountains sprung up.

For hours their transport was ordered to stay aloft as landing was too dangerous, and Khnum and his team could do nothing but watch as the face of the planet was changed below them. Unfortunately, the plane could not stay up for too long and eventually had to make an emergency landing. The pilots were good ones, and those onboard were able to step away from the downed plane unscathed. But they were walking into a changed world and there was no telling what was going to happen next, as sirens went off everywhere and people scrambled to surive the coming fallout and Long Winter from a worldwide missile strike that Khnum felt personally responsible for.

Khnum was pulled in by his superiors and his parents and sent to the underground bunkers for dignitaries and government officials. Here he began to show his true promise in engineering by upgrading and improving the systems within. He then volunteered on numerour occasions to go topside (above ground) to help the survivors up there. He designed and built much of the cleansing systems that would purify water and clean the air within the remaining buildings.

One year after The Great Reset, Khnum was topside when he realized that his radiation suit had a tear in it. He had been exposed to a lot of radiation and there was no way of knowing how long it had been torn. He made it back indoors before he collapsed. It took several weeks before he recovered, with his health vastly improved after he had been given a new heart pace-maker of his own design.

Sadly, Khnum Ani-Khepesh's parents died from radiation sickness a year later, at the age of 17, leaving him not only the throne of al-Mamlaka l-ʾUrdunniyya l-Hāšimiyya and the presidency of Jumhūrīyat Kemet al-ʻArabīyah, but CEO of their various businesses. Now, meeting with the rulers of al-Mamlaka l-ʾUrdunniyya l-Hāšimiyya, Jumhūrīyat Kemet al-ʻArabīyah, Jumhūrīyat as-Sūdān, Kingdom of Punt, an-Nūba, Jamhuuriyadda Jabuuti, Republic of South as-Sūdān, Ubangi-Shari, République du Tchad, and Dawlat Lībiyā; Khnum, as the new King of al-Mamlaka l-ʾUrdunniyya l-Hāšimiyya, announced his intention to bring them all together, not as an empire that would abolish boundaries, but as a conglomerate of nations to be run like a business, turning their citizens into working employees, all under government pay and care, allowing all nations in this conglomerate to direct and control the economy, infrastructure, health and supplies; ending wars and able to capitalize on the strengths of each of these nations.

Over the course of the next three years of discussion, one nation at a time agreed to join Khnum's conglomerate called, Almajmuʿ al-Qawmi al-ʾIfriqī (ACN). During those three years, and in the following years of the "Long Winter", Khnum Ani-Khepesh used his knowledge of engineering and science to look at each nation as a separate part of a machine.

Five years after The Great Reset, the ACN had built vast city-size greenhouses above ground and hydroponics below-grounds, as well as vast underground zoos dedicated to saving and maintaining as many animal species as possible. Being one of two mass-producers of food, the ACN soon became a powerhouse among nations and Khnum Ani-Khepesh became the richest man in the known world, in terms of control.

Skill(s)

(See The Grid)

Fighting: YukSogh: Khnum was trained in unarmed combat making him a quite physically formidable combatant on his own when the situation demands it. He has managed to bare-handedly confront several ninja.

_____Skilled Marksman: Khnum knows how to handle firearms, mainly the ones he has produced.

_____Skilled Swordsman: While not his strongest skill, Khnum used to fence in college. However, Khnum admits that he's rusty due to the fact that he doesn't engage in regular practice.

_____Weaponry

Master Businessman: Khnum is extremely well-respected in the business world, able to command people's attentions when he speaks on economic matters by virtue of the fact that he is savvy enough to have, over the years, built up several multi-billion-dollar companies from virtually nothing. He is known for the loyalty he commands from and returns to those who work for him, as well as his impeccable business ethics. He also strives to be environmentally responsible in his businesses, and in one case, immediately fired an employee who made profitable (but illegal) sales to Melltithio. He states that if he wanted to, he could give away his entire fortune and build it up again within a week. Khnum most notably turned his father's munitions firm into a multinational corporation that covered virtually all contemporary scientific industry when barely in his early twenties.

Master Tactician: He is a brilliant tactician capable of quickly formulating battle strategies and new plans if the situation changes, like being able to elaborate different complex plans in order to defeat different enemies in difficult situations, and be victorious. Even going as far as to simultaneously put Michael Reed in check on five different boards playing chess, a game he didn't learn until later in his life, leaving Reed totally astonished.

Multilingual: Apart from Kemetian, Khnum can speak different languages fluently, including English, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, Russian, and Korean. He also might know multiple Middle Eastern languages, at one point noting that Urdu wasn't his strong suit in particular. Khnum watches the news in four languages.

Intelligence: Brainiac: Quite apart from the powers granted him by the suit, Khnum is far more than a mechanical engineering prodigy who graduated from The American University in Cairo with honors at the age of 17. With an intelligence classified as super-genius, he easily is one of the smartest people on Eden. Furthermore, this extends to his remarkable ingenuity dealing with difficult situations such as foes and deathtraps where he is capable of using his available tools, like his suit, in unorthodox and effective ways, for example when he built the first Engineer Armor in captivity. He has also been able to hack technology from the Khreeunds, a race centuries more advanced than humans.

Khnum's genius allows him to act as a futurist, a person capable of intuiting the future based on current trends, to the point of foreshadowing that a situation was going to happen years before it did. This ability also extends to a much smaller scale, with Khnum being capable of predicting with accuracy the way an interaction with a given individual will go down even before talking with them, a faculty that makes it really hard for human interactions to surprise him, and causes him to sometimes finish other people's sentences.

Khnum can use his superior intellect to the levels of dividing his consciousness with the help of Starkrons Infoshades and perfectly operate three portions of his consciousness at the same time, being able to move, fight, talk and process information in three different bodies at the same time. Khnum has been mentioned by The Designer to be the world's greatest engineer, and by Michael Reed to be the world's best multitasker.

_____Computer Operation

_____Electrical Engineering

_____Master Mechanical Engineer: He is an excellent engineer and mechanic capable of fixing almost any, if not all machinery.

_____Physics

_____Science

Weaknesses

Alcoholism: While Khnum has quit drinking, he continues to struggle and avoid falling off the wagon. Khnum's alcoholism has made him susceptible to the prospect of drinking, especially when under pressure. Strangely enough, his armor's body scans do not percieve alcohol as a foreign substance to be expunged. It is believed this is due to a subconcious desire to drink.

Equipment

Power Armor:

Khnum wears a sophisticated suit of body armor containing various offensive weaponry. He has several suits aside from the current model. Some are mission-specific or prototypes for testing, others are older models kept for nostalgia or for research. He has developed a special briefcase to carry his armor in. A few models are too big for the case and require a separate module. As the multi-trillionaire head of a global conglomerate and a genius-level inventor, Khnum can procure or develop additional technology as needed as possible. With his engineering, physics, and ballistics knowledge, it is conceivable that the suit may potentially possess even greater power in the future.

The Engineer's primary powers mostly come from his armored suit.

Armor Capabilities:

Anti-Magnetism: The armor Khnum has to negate the effects of magnetism on it. This skill is used often to be immune to the powers of Magnus der Dämonenkopf. This skill can be triggered when the armor picks next wave magnetism.

Computerized Communications and Scanning Array (CCSA): An integral to the armor's technological advantages. The onboard computer comes equipped with high density, flash memory protocols for suit operation, including weapons management, power management, gyroscopic balancing, and analysis of electromagnetic phenomena.

Energy Conversion Power Recharge: The armor is also able to absorb and convert nearby or far away energy sources, such as heat, solar, electrical, magnetic, geo-thermal or kinetic energy or energy from the planet itself into electricity, or even drain energy directly into the batteries for recharge.

Energy Resistance: Khnum has immune systems in his armor to help him fight off computer viruses. This system also protects him against mind control agents like Swarm Mother's hypnotic pollen.

Magnetism: The armor can generate magnetic fields to pull or push metal objects at will.

Onboard Computer: The armor has an internal on board computer operating system that aids Stark in providing strategies, background information on opponents, surroundings, the status of the suit, and prevents a lock on from targeting systems.

Override: When required, armor systems including strength amplification, durability amplification, and repulsor intensity can be greatly increased, by bypassing safety circuits and limiters. However, there is a chance that this can result in a complete system failure of the armor. An example of this mode is when The Engineer easily lifted a 16,000 ton Nuclear Reactor, and flew into the sky and threw it into the sea. In effect, The Engineer utilized this resource on the Wrath once, and the armor ends up completely inert. Additionally, it has been further referred that The Engineer can only temporarily reach this extreme power level, and it presumably was also used in other circumstances. The range of the Override can be controlled as only reaching his very limit and staying at it for a long time will cause a system failure. This range goes from a safe 800% to 3200%, up to a very dangerous 5000%. Thus, his armor seems to avoid the collapse resulting from the Override for immediate use, but he doesn't use it continually during a prolonged period of time.

Power Cells: Most of his armor are powered by a combination of solar converters, electrical batteries and an on-board generator that uses beta particle absorption as a fuel source. Current models after The Engineer Armor Model 37 use a set of five Repulsor Tech generators to be powered.

Radioscopic Scans: His armor is able to analyze photonic energy given off from an object through readouts the armor gives.

Self-Contained Life-Support System & Environmental Protection: The armor can be completely sealed for operations in vacuum or underwater, providing its own life support, and is shielded against radiation, biological, chemical, corrosive, kinetic, and electrical attacks as well.

Sensor Array: Known sensors include radar/lidar, night vision, and physiological/medical scanners that allow Stark to take and monitor the vitals of other people, including heart and brain scans. These scans also provide Khnum with real-time personal physiological data. They are also capable of an all-environmental scan for atmospheric content or life forms--including astral energy projections.

Durability: : The suit's ability to impart a resistance to physical injury was quite considerable before the addition of the inertial dampening field. Small arms fire was generally not a threat but larger firearms could prove dangerous. All of the suits have performed admirably considering The Engineer's opponents, who include the Revenge and Scrapmetal.

Speed: Flight: High-Hypersonic: The armor can typically reach speeds in excess of Mach 10.

Speed: Land: Superior: Even when not traveling for extended distances, the armor enables the wearer to move and react at very high speeds, shown for example when he was able to outmaneuver Muraña and the Centigrade.

Strength: Monolithic: He's capable of lifting up to 100 tons when wearing his armor, and can achieve higher levels of strength when powered by a sufficiently more powerful source. When Smash got into a major frenzy, Khnum was able to put her down in one punch. In fact, The Engineer has been able to slightly harm the Sunguard (The Doom) with a punch. His exact strength heavily depends on which armor he is currently wearing.

Defensive Powers:

Crystallized Iron Armor: The armor has evolved from a bulky iron suit to a bulky, highly complex matrix of molecularly-aligned fully crystallized ultra high carbon iron/steel hybrid alloy enhanced by magnetic fields over layers of other ultra hyper alloys like titanium alloy and or tungsten/vanadium alloys reinforced with carbon nano-tubes creating a shell that is pliable, yet capable of amazingly high resilience and protection.

Energy Shield: Energy shielding that can protect the user from harm. It is also capable of reflecting attacks and staying mobile. At 2% power, the shield is strong enough to withstand a nuclear explosion. It is even capable of protecting its user at the point blank of a nuclear explosion caused by a material even more radioactive than Uranium, Phlogistone. The suit's shielding can resist a force blast from the Ultramarine's Disintegration Beam Ring, a beam of energy so powerful it can destroy the bonds between atoms and molecules, and magic.

Enhanced Durability: His armor is very durable, capable of withstanding tremendous amounts of punishment. It can withstand high caliber bullets with ease. He can also withstand rockets, missiles, torpedoes, high powered lasers, and such, taking little to no damage. Future armor were fully resistant against electricity, fire, heavy impacts, energy blasts, take zero Kelvin and up to the Sol's temperatures, even some of Ragnarök's attacks. The suit can withstand almost unlimited kinetic and thermal impact, as well as most forms of radiation thanks to its refractory coating. The armor can survive anything short of a nuclear explosion at ground zero. The suit automatically protects its wearer when he enters an intrinsically hostile environment, such as outer space or deep sea. The armor even has specialized circuitry that guards against telepathic attacks. Khnum is very confident in his suit's defensive abilities, when he was caught in a nuclear explosion, he was only thinking about women and completely forgot about what was happening around him.

Offensive Powers:

Energy Blade: Based on the same design Khnum used to build Agent of Glory's energy shield, this laser sword, emitted from his right arm, could also be flattened into a shield on his hands, or spread over the entire armor to encase the armor in a protective covering.

Hyper-Velocity Impact: The program Hyper-Velocity allows Khnum to think and move at a much faster time frame than everyone else, allowing for quicker attacks. Also, it could create an electrical bubble if Khnum is going fast enough.

Lasers: Standard lasers that can be used as weapons or for welding, including UV laser to penetrate light-permeable shields.

Multi-beam: As the name implies, the Multi-beam can fire multiple energies at the same time. Generally used with the energy that Khnum has absorbed.

Omnibeam: Rather than only firing beam type attacks, the Omnibeam can generate heats at 25,232° Fahrenheit, extremely powerful lights causing irreversible blindness in the enemy, and emit ultrasonic attacks capable of stunning even superhumanly durable foes and even causing disintegration. The other way the Omnibeam is fired is by absorbing or draining any energy in The Engineer's vicinity, drawing it into his chest reactor and converting it into billions of petawatts and firing it.

Pentabeam: The Pentabeam has microwave lensing projector that allows for directed beams of ultra-high multi mega-joule electrons, protons, acoustic energy, and neutrons.

Plasma Discharge: A plasma discharge is given off when the suit comes into contact with 8thbranium.

Pulse Barrage: Pulse Barrage is one of The Engineer's standard long range attack. Because of its extremely low energy consumption, Pulse Barrage can be a very effective attack. an upgraded Red Pulse Barrage has the ability to penetrate through foes hitting others behind them, and the ability to ricochet off walls hitting more targets.

Pulse Bolts: Extremely powerful plasma discharges that propagate in strength over distance, but implode if they get overloaded.

Repulsor Rays: The armor's primary energy weapon. A particle beam weapon, standard equipment in the palm gauntlets; can repel physical and energy-based attacks, traveling as a single stream or as a wide-field dispersal. Beams possess penetrative strength ranging from effortlessly punching through 2-inches of steel to blasting a hole through a mountain. Power output can be adjust for larger beam or an omnidirectional, full-form repulsor blast. Power output can be adjusted to fire beams generating 2-gigawatts to the beams in the high petawatt region.

Smart Missiles: The Smart Missile is one that can target the weak points of a structure, object, or foe to inflict maximum damage with a minimal payload.

Telepathic Microscopic Tasers: Khnum created this device to prevent telepathic beings use its powers. They are stored in the armor's electric jet. One inhaled by a telepath, the more he/she tries to use his/her psychic powers, the higher is the voltage of an electric current released in his/her body. It can be lethal if the telepath doesn't stop trying to use his/her powers.

Telepathy Inhibitor: Khnum's The Engineer's armor is capable of blocking telepathic signals, even those of beings as powerful as Genesis.

Tri-beam: This unique version of the Unibeam runs on direct power from the chestplate, draining its energy rapidly if not fully charged; causes considerable recoil.

Unibeam: A powerful searchlight, capable of projecting beams in virtually every light spectrum. Also used as a powerful weapon that can destroy anything in its path. It fires a boosted form of the Monobeam with some energy backing it up.
